(pronounced: kah-puh-LOO-uh)

The name kapa lua, loosely translates to “arms embracing the sea,” in the Hawaiian language and is one of Maui’s premier resort areas. This spectacular area, nestled amongst Cook pines and surrounded by acres of pineapple, is lined with five bays, three white-sand beaches and is the perfect getaway to indulge in the luxurious side of Maui.

In the 1800’s Kapalua was first known as the Honolua Ranch and later as the Honolua Plantation. Today the 23,000-acre, master-planned resort is home to the Ritz Carlton and Montage Kapalua Resorts, award-winning restaurants and two world class golf courses - the Plantation Course, where the prestigious PGA TOUR's Hyundai Tournament of Champions is held and the Bay Course. In addition to golf, Kapalua hosts a number of events throughout the year including the Kapalua Wine & Food Festival.

Kapalua Bay has received many honors including being  named "Best Beach in the World" by the readers of Conde Nast Traveler magazine, and the "Best Beach in America" by the Travel Channel.

Kapalua is also where Maui’s second largest airport is located.
