(pronounced: why LAY uh)
Wailea was named after the legend of the Hawaiian goddess of canoe builders, Lea. According to the story, Lea transformed into a beautiful bird flew over the shorelines of the South Maui coast and ever after the area came to be known as “The Waters of Lea”. This planned residential resort community consists of over 2,000 luxury homes and condos, seven resort hotels, three world-class golf courses, three shopping centers and a tennis club spread across 1,500 acres just past the town of Kihei.
Start your morning off with a leisurely stroll along the mile and a half beach trail that winds along the coast connecting the 4 beautiful golden-sand filled crescent beaches. Spend the afternoon shopping, browsing the art galleries or relaxing at one of the six luxury spas. Enjoy a sunset cocktail at one of the many resort lounges before heading out to dinner at one of the over 40 restaurants. Rest, relaxation and rejuvenation is what Wailea is all about.
